When the 1960’s came, it brought with it many changes and trends in the fashion and jewelry industry. The 1960’ was at large, marked with the hippie jewelry that actually included jewelry pieces like, boho cultural looks and love beads. It was specially marked with the hemp and handmade looks.

Modjewelry was also very common then, and this type of jewelry greatly included the designs which have to do with black and white “op art”, flower power and multi strand necklaces that were popular in colors like, orange, pink, bright yellow and lime. This look was also further embellished with flapper-length bead necklaces that added more to the groovy look.

This era was also marked with jewelry that was usually designed with some animals designed on it. Like, for example, at that time, large pendants were famous and these usually had on them, animals carved on them that usually included owls. Colored faceted balls of Lucite jewelry were also very famous. The 1960’s also saw the crazy trends for big hoop or ball drop earrings and also the fashion of plastic bangles that were usually available in bright colors.

Ethnic jewelry also stepped forward and brought the advent of the East Indian, Asian and Egyptian culture in the fashion scene. Many women either used to adapt an ethnic style completely or make combinations among them. Some colorful jewels were widely used as jewelry embellishments. The styles were those days, quite funky, colorful and bold. Quite from this decade, was also brought into the 1970’s.

The 1950’s was the decade of post Second World War period and period of rock and roll. The decade was filled with all kinds of fears and hopes. It was the time when the world was recovering from the aftermaths of the Second World War, and the American economy was on upswing. It was the time of rock and roll, the mid fifties was marked with great names that included the king of rock and roll, Elvis Presley. The fashion styles were emerging in this decade and so new trends were formed.

Hats and the spectacles with exaggerated wings were in the fashion trends. The twin sweater look and the ballerina look, give way to costume jewelry designs.

With so much changes and trends coming in and out in the decade, inspired the jewelry designs greatly. As the 1950’s was the post period of the Second World War and the people had seen enough of atomic bombs, the jewelry that was designed at that time largely had designs of starbursts and sprays of diamonds.

The jewelry style was divided into two categories, the day jewelry which had gold with no embellished stones on it and the night jewelry which were the diamonds. Pearl strings were a famous accessory during the day and use of turquoise, amethyst and coral colors wee in style.
